Popov the Dancing Dinkinov
By Steve Cleverley and Sanj Sen
Make yourself comfy and close your eyes. Tonight we’re travelling to the snowy city of Moshikov to hear how a frosty Moshling called Popov finally melted, thanks to a little Bobbly Wobblov called Yana.
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
In a city known as Moshikov, somewhere in the east
The chance of getting frosty toes has recently increased
Now winter’s here, it’s not a place you’d ever want to go
As icy blizzards blast its streets with tons of powdery snow
The locals here are pretty good at keeping nice and toasty
They juggle snowballs, pirouette and do the Mosh-ki pokey
But most of all they warm themselves by dancing in the street
They crouch down low and fold their arms, then kick out both their feet
It’s called the ‘Moshi-osh-ka’ and it looks a little silly
But no one cares about that, as it stops you feeling chilly
All except for Popov, who thinks it’s really daft
Then again he can’t recall the last time that he laughed
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
With his big moustache and bushy eyebrows, Popov looks so serious
Add to that a big fur hat that makes him seem mysterious
He doesn’t like to do the dance that makes you nice and warm
Even though he’s shivering in an icy, snowy storm
See Popov is a guard outside the palace in the square
A place once fit for royalty where the tourists come to stare…
…at onion domes and rainbow spires and regal bits and bobs
And jewels the emperor ‘borrowed’ just before he lost his job
Popov’s feeling really cold but dancing is not his thing
He even gets embarrassed if he’s asked to hum or sing
“As a guard my duty’s to look serious and gruff
Not squat and kick my legs around, and all that silly stuff”
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Popov is a Dinkinov, they’re known for acting glum
They’d rather have cold tootsie-toes than dance and have real fun
But secretly, Popov wants to do the Moshi-osh-ka
He’s heard it heats you up just like a really good defroster
Tonight he spots some Moshlings Moshi-osh-ka-ing round the square
They look so warm and happy, it really isn’t fair
“If only I could join them,” thinks Popov feeling low
And watches on with envy as they frolic in the snow
With temperatures still plummeting, they dance towards the bridge
While Popov’s fingers feel as if they’re stuck inside a fridge
But then one of the dancing locals turns around and winks
“She can’t be doing that at me” is the first thing Popov thinks
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
The pretty winking Moshling is a little Bobbly Wobblov
She says “My name is Yana,” as she dances up to Popov
“Why don’t you try dancing, it’s freezing cold out here”
But Popov doesn’t look her way, he’s frozen stiff with fear
“Come on, Mr Grumpy Pants, I’ll teach you how to dance”
But Popov gazes at his boots and mumbles “Not a chance”
Yana smiles and starts to hum a jolly melody
“Come along and take my hand, tonight you’ll dance with me”
And even though he’s very brave, Popov feels so shy
But glances up at Yana’s face and looks her in the eye
His tummy fills with butterflies, his heart misses a beat
Then slowly Popov starts to thaw and taps his frozen feet
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Love warms the frozen, love warms the heart
Before he knows it Popov’s Moshi-osh-ka-ing through the night
As fiddlers play on snowy roofs beneath the pale moonlight
He’s never felt so warm inside, for this he must thank Yana
She’s filled his heart with joy and love and found his inner charmer
Now when Moshikov is freezing, Popov’s always snug
He dances like an expert and gives passers-by a hug
His frosty scowl has disappeared, he sometimes even smirks
And Yana often joins him for a boogie after work
She’s glad she got to melt the icy guard they call Popov
And now the tourists know him as ‘The Dancing Dinkinov’
He feels so warm and cosy, like a hand inside a glove
And now knows that the best thing in the whole wide world… is love
Goodnight
