Fluttercup’s School for Unicorns
By Steve Cleverley/Sanj Sen
Do you love unicorns? Well, Gigi is a cute little mule who simply adores them… so much so, she tries to look like one… So cosy up and close your eyes, as I tell you all about her visit to a very special place…
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Gigi is a Moshling, a friendly little mule
Who’s always dreamt of studying at Fluttercup’s Unicorn School
See, even though she looks and acts just like a unicorn
It’s only ‘cos she paints her mane and wears a glued-on horn
Gigi wishes she could be as elegant and sleek…
As the unicorns she sometimes spots before she goes to sleep
They gallop past her stable, then leap into the sky
(For the unicorns that Gigi loves are magic ones that fly)
Gigi thinks that it would be the ultimate in cool
If she could somehow fly away to see the unicorn school
Cos Fluttercup’s is magical, a legendary place
That’s said to lie beyond a rainbow, somewhere up in space
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Gigi snuggles on a bed of hay inside her stable
And reads her book about the school (which some say’s just a fable)
Apparently the school is where all unicorns must come
To learn good grace and manners, but most of all have fun
As Gigi starts to drift to sleep, she hears the twinkly sound
Of swishing harps combined with clipclops, on the moonlit ground
She peeks above her stable door by standing on a stool
And there outside is Fluttercup, the owner of the school
Fluttercup’s magnificent, majestic in her movement
And Gigi knows immediately she’d love to be her student
“Hello, my name’s Gigi” she whispers in delight
“Can I come to school with you, just for once, tonight?”
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Fluttercup looks down at Gigi, “May I ask you why?
My school is meant for unicorns, what’s more, it’s in the sky”
Gigi says, “I’ve always dreamt of being a unicorn”
“So I see” laughs Fluttercup, nodding at her horn
Gigi seems embarrassed, so Fluttercup takes pity
“You know there’s more to unicorns than looking cute and pretty”
“No, but you can teach me” says Gigi with a grin
“Very well” says Fluttercup, “I’ll try to fit you in”
Fluttercup explains to Gigi, “Trust in me you must”
Then shakes her mane, sprinkling Gigi’s hooves with magic dust
Gigi feels all tingly as she starts to slowly rise
And before she has a chance to speak, she’s soaring through the skies
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Gigi gallops through the heavens, chasing Fluttercup
But unicorns are nimble, and she struggles to keep up
As luck would have it, Fluttercup leaves sparkling vapour trails
That Gigi follows closely like a twilight train on rails
Gigi sees a pinkish cloud, then Fluttercup veers right
Up towards the most astounding multicoloured light
They fly across a rainbow, till they reach its very end
Then through a haze of golden mist, they gradually descend
Fluttercup finally touches down, upon a glittery cloud
Beside a glowing sign that reads, ‘Only unicorns allowed’
“Don’t worry, you’re with me,” she whispers, “I can bend the rules…
Especially when I’m chaperoning little Moshling mules”
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Fluttercup and Gigi stroll towards a heart-shaped gate
Fluttercup’s unruffled but Gigi cannot wait
“Welcome to my school” says Fluttercup, as they step inside
But Gigi’s lost for words because her smile is ten miles wide
The grounds are filled with unicorns, everywhere she looks
Some are learning how to fly, some are reading books…
Some are dancing, some are studying ballet on the grass
Others laugh and gossip as they trot to their next class
Beneath a plum tree, unicorns are learning special powers
Singing sleepy lullabies that summon glitter showers
The school itself’s a dome that’s made from rainbows stuck together
And Gigi starts to wish that she could hang out here forever
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Many hours pass and Gigi has a wondrous time
Fluttercup shows her how to prance, and speak in soothing rhyme
She shows her round the classrooms, introducing her to teachers
Who tell her tales involving other legendary creatures
They trot into the gardens, towards a wishing well
Past unicorns revolving on a fairground carousel
Gigi says to Fluttercup, “This place is so enchanted…
I can’t thank you enough, it’s every humble mule’s wish granted”
Gazing into the wishing well, Fluttercup then speaks
“You know Gigi I’ve been hoping to talk to you for weeks…
I’ve seen how you love unicorns and want to be one too
But you are just as special, I hope you know that’s true?”
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Fluttercup goes on to give her new friend more advice
“You’ll never be a unicorn, so you must realise…
That even little mules like you are magic and unique
And sometimes if you search your soul, you’ll find the thing you seek”
Gigi thinks for ages, staring down the wishing well
Then waves her mane as if she’s trying to cast a magic spell
Rainbow rain begins to fall and Fluttercup’s transfixed
It seems that Gigi’s time here’s helped her learn some magic tricks
Gigi turns to Fluttercup and says, “I think you’re right…
Though thanks to you, I’ve learnt some magic coming here tonight
I’m just a mule and not so cool, but yes, I’m special too
So from now I will be myself, instead of copying you”
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
Fluttercup is very proud that Gigi’s learned a lesson
You never get a second chance to make a first impression
And longing to be legendary isn’t such a crime
Cos everybody wants to be a unicorn sometime
Fluttercup and Gigi say goodbye as dearest friends
But a fond farewell upon a cloud’s not where our story ends
For one thing, Gigi’s journey home is filled with sheer delight
As she gallops back through rainbows, beneath the pale moonlight
Back inside her stable, she starts to snooze and wonder
If her trip to school was real, or a spell that she fell under?
But then she hears a harp swish and a scroll plops through the door
And unrolling it she reads some words she’s dreamt about before
‘Fluttercup’s School for Unicorns’ is written at the top
And as Gigi reads the words beneath, she think her heart might pop:
“This is a certificate, to make sure you remember…
Our evening at my unicorn school, where you’re an honorary member”
Way beyond a rainbow
Somewhere in our dreams
There’s a place where we’ll go
You and me
Everybody, everybody dreams (everyone, everywhere)
Everybody dreams, everybody dreams, everybody dreams
Of being a unicorn
The certificate is stamped and signed by Fluttercup herself
And Gigi thinks “I’ll frame this, and display it on a shelf”
She snuggles on her bed of hay and dreams of unicorns…
Of rainbow manes, majestic names and pointy magic horns…
… Of flights through clouds and hazy shrouds, of pink and blue and gold
And lands beyond her wildest dreams, and stories still untold
She drifts into a deeper sleep as pictures start to form
Of countless worlds beyond her own, all filled with unicorns
She know that she can visit them at any given time
She simply needs to close her eyes and drift there in her mind
But mostly, Gigi’s dreams tonight are of Fluttercup and her school
And how she learnt that she’s unique, a very… special… mule
Goodnight…
